MPLS (Multi-Protocol Label Switching)

A networking protocol that allows any combination of Data Link-layer (layer 2) protocols to be transported over any type of Network layer (layer 3). MPLS routes data by examining each packet’s MPLS label without examining packet . Implementing MPLS improves interoperability and routing speed.
