Why SANE exists
AV has a knowledge problem. Not because people in AV are dumb; quite the opposite. This industry is full of people who can walk into a weird room, inherit a pile of mixed hardware, and somehow make it all behave before the client arrives.
The problem is where the knowledge lives. Some of it is in paid documents. Some of it is buried in vendor guides. Some of it is locked inside company standards. A worrying amount of it is in the head of one person who "usually handles that."
That works fine until they leave, get busy, switch jobs, or take a vacation. Then suddenly nobody knows why the displays are named that way, what half the cable labels mean, whether the room was actually commissioned, or where the final documentation went.
SANE exists because this stuff should be easier to find, easier to use, and easier to improve. We are building open, practical AV standards for naming devices, labeling cables, drawing systems, documenting networks, commissioning rooms, and handing projects over to the people who have to live with them.
The goal is not to make standards sound important. The goal is to make them useful. AV is already complicated enough, and the standards should not be the hard part.
Who is behind SANE

FounderAfter more than 15 years working on AV systems for corporate offices, schools, government spaces, medical facilities, financial institutions, museums, broadcast environments, and theaters, he kept running into the same frustrating pattern: the industry has plenty of knowledge, but too much of it is paywalled, vendor-shaped, inconsistent, or passed around as tribal wisdom. SANE grew out of that frustration. Andrew drives the project's vision, RFC process, and technical direction, with the goal of making AV standards more open, practical, and useful for the people doing the work.
